This year SVWC has been taking a RE:look at the way we do church. Our hearts desire is to examine the early church and see what God was doing then and how we might be able to RE:focus our services now. We don’t want to settle for what we see has been the norm in church culture for years and continues to be today. People gather, they sing a few songs, hear some announcements, listen to an entertaining sermon and then go home. Is that really the way church was meant to be? We don’t believe it is. So recently, we have made a couple changes when we gather together and these are only the beginning of a move in a direction that is not yet fully known.

One of the 1st changes that might be noticed is that when the sermon message is given; at times there might be a few members of the church speaking about what God has revealed to them through the scripture readings for that week, instead of only our pastor. We believe that when the early church gathered there was often many people involved in what took place. (1 Corinthians 14)

Another simple change will be from topical preaching to expository preaching. The majority of the sermons or messages that will be delivered will be verse by verse.

We by no means believe we have church figured out, think we are better than any other church, or other churches are wrong for doing church the way they do it. SVWC is simply on a journey to find the way we believe God wants us to function when we gather together as the family of God.
